We had Mathis’ first birthday party on August 17th. At first I wanted to do a “camping” theme party but ended up changing my mind and we went with a “Cowboy & Indian Pow Wow” theme. Since we were in between houses the Mentzers offered to host the party at their house. It was just perfect for an outdoor party, they have the best backyard! And it was so generous of them to open their home to us!
The best decision ever was to have someone else take pictures so that I could enjoy the party and also end up with pictures in the end. So Emily Bailey who is a wonderful photographer came and shot some awesome pictures. Most of these pictures are hers with a couple of my “unprofessional” ones thrown in there as well. Get ready for picture overload!
This was Mischika’s chalkboard that I wrote on and used to direct people to the backyard
Charlie and I made this teepee for Mathis. It was his birthday gift from us. It was completely a joint effort and I love how it turned out. I think it will make a great book nook in his new room.
We followed some DIY instructions we found on pinterest. The arrows hanging from the teepee are from Hobby Lobby and I made the little sign.
This sweet one year old was having fun with Emily while she was taking pictures!
I made the invitations on my Silhouette and all the cute accessories were things Mischika had around her house.
Coming into the backyard…the fabulous Nina Vail provided the beautiful Indian headdresses. The wood wreath is from Hobby Lobby.
The main table..I made the banner on my Silhouette. The chalkboard is from Hobby Lobby and most of the adorable western accessories are Mischikas.
My mom and I made the cupcakes and we found the little cowboy and Indian figurines at Hobby Lobby.
We had biscuits and homemade jams and jellies from Jeff Mentzers mom. We also had pigs in a blanket, fruit kabobs and cupcakes.
The birthday boy loved playing on the wagon his DeeDee and G-Bob got him and was excited for his friends to arrive! Mathis’ onesie is from the Posh Petunia in Plano, his horseshoe swimsuit is Baby Gap but I got them from a resale shop and he’s wearing Saltwater Sandals. Emma was the cutest little Indian!
Mathis with his BFF Myers!!
Mathis playing with a ball at the water table and Emily having fun on the Slip N Slide!
Scarlett on the Slip N Slide and Tippit in the play house!
I was so excited that the Kemp/Glasson clan came to Dallas!! It was so much fun to have them at the party and I finally got to meet baby Luke! Sweet Annemarie having fun in the ball pool with her Aunt Haley!
This little cowboy was ready for some cake! The high chair is my parents. The stick giraffe was a gift for Mathis from the Mentzers. I made the “one” banner and tassels. The cake is a red velvet bundlet from Nothing Bundt Cakes.
He wore the cowboy hat for about a second then ripped it off, ha ha. He hates wearing hats! The little “one” candle is from Wal-Mart and I made the little “one” banner.
Then it was time to open presents!
The picture frame was a sweet gift from his Great Grandma Dody. It had a picture of a Mickey hot air balloon that she took herself a long time ago, he loved it!
He got so many fun and sweet gifts! Due to our lack of storage, he hasn’t gotten to play with many of them. When we move into our house he will think it’s his birthday all over again! ha ha
This thoughtful gift was made by his Uncle Andy and Aunt Jen! It is a step stool. The sides are painted blue ombre and the middle shiny part is magnetic. They are so talented, it is an awesome stool! Underneath the stool is a note from them, it was the sweetest part!
I didn’t get a picture of the party favor table but I had a picture of the favors from home. I wrapped little bags of S’mores and cupcake flavored Goldfish in a bandana, tied it with twine and put a name tag on it.
I love throwing parties and celebrating God’s blessings in our lives! This was the best one yet!
