They Call Him The Fireman…

This summer we had some of the Dallas Fire Department guys and their families over to hang out and cookout.  All these guys were in the same class.  Since finishing school they have all been spread out to different stations, so it was fun to see everyone and catch up!

Charlie got to be a part of a Dallas Fire Department flash mob!  The guys from Station 26 went to the Bishop Arts District in Oak Cliff and did a flash mob in honor of Dyrk Burcie.  He is a little boy diagnosed with stage 4 hepatoblastoma (liver cancer) and his dad is Dallas fireman.  For more information you can go to their website www.dyrkstrong.org.  Charlie is on the right in the back Smile.

A couple of weeks ago Charlie took his Anatomy & Physiology course.  They do the course in 2 weeks – crazy amount of information!  He did great and passed, yay!  The cookie cake I made him when he finished!

This week Charlie started Paramedic School (perfect timing with me being on bed rest, not!! Sad smile).  So he is taking classes at UT Southwestern Monday-Friday and he will finish in January.  Then it is back to a station and he will work his 24 hour on/48 hour off schedule again!  We both can’t wait for him to be finished with school – I know he will do great!

Burn Night

Charlie recently had his Burn Night and graduation from the Dallas Fire-Rescue Academy.  They started the night off with a really cool video that they made.  Then we headed outside to watch them show off!  These were all tasks that they completed throughout their training.

The first event was repelling from 6 stories high…

I am so proud of Charlie, he worked very hard!  He has been in the field for a few weeks and he is loving it.  I could not be happier that he loves what he is doing!

Afterwards we had dinner with the fam at Twisted Root then headed across the street to Adair’s to hang out and as a tradition the guys signed the ceiling.

They Call Me The Fireman…That’s My Name

After working on getting into the Dallas Fire Department for a year, Charlie got hired on!  He was very persistent, constantly staying in contact we the recruiter.  I am so proud of him and the DFD is lucky to have him!  His start date was October 6th.  This was not the most convenient time since he was teaching but he had to do what he had to do.  He gave his two weeks notice and actually one of our friends was hired on to take his teaching/coaching position.  To show Charlie how proud I was of him and to celebrate his new career I threw him a little get-together!  He enjoyed hanging out with family and his close friends, especially some of the coaches from McDonald that he will miss.

Of course I love any reason to throw a party!  I made brisket, my mom made some sides and I bought the cute cake from a friend.

The cake was so adorable!  It had a few dents after the little tumble it took in my car :(.  11-4-10 02911-4-10 03011-4-10 050
