A Proud Granddaughter

I don’t really know how to start this post off…so that’s how I am going to start it, ha ha.  On Tuesday January 19, 2010 my grandpa passed away.  He was 91 years old, amazing huh!  You would really be amazed if you would have seen him a few months ago still cutting up firewood at the age of 91!  He is definitely one of my heroes.  He is my mom’s dad (they actually adopted my mom).  He was always such a hard worker, full of wisdom, very sweet and thoughtful, the best grandpa I could ask for.  He was always so proud of his family - from bragging on them any chance he got to wearing a hat that had mine, Abby, & Bekah’s picture really big on the front (he loved those hats :)).  He loved for us to come visit him in Pittsburg, TX on his farm.  When I was little he always wanted me to come sit in his lap and talk to him, or crack pecans that he had picked from the yard.  Always giving me peaches, pecans, etc. to take home from his house.  He always had a fire going at his house (even the hottest day of summer).  He could always tell you how much rain the farm got (he kept track every time it rained.)  He kept our entire family connected to each other.  He always took good care of his family and his farm.  He loved to hear about your job and anything about your life, he was a great friend.  He makes me want to be a better person and to appreciate everyday of my life.  I will miss him but I am encouraged live like he did…

91 years is a good, long life! I'm glad that he was a person that inspired you:) Praying for your mom - it has to be hard losing a parent, no matter how old they are. Miss you!

Ginni, I am so sorry to hear about your Grandpa, but I love the newspaper clipping. Sounds like he was such a neat man who had his priorities in line. Reminds me of my great-grandma and how i felt when she passed away.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your grandfather sounded like an amazing man. It hits close to home because a ton of the characteristics and traits you talked about remind me so much of my grandfather.
