Tonight I went to my sisters volleyball game. She plays for the Poteet High School Varsity team. Tonights game was Poteet vs. Red Oak. Red Oak has some very good volleyball players and as a team they are ranked 6th in state. They are the only team that Poteet has lost to. So I was really getting into this game! They were doing great and you could see that they could really beat this team!
I found myself getting so competitive for them and really not liking the other team. Not only was Red Oak good, which makes you want to beat them even more, but they were also very cocky/confident, which seemed to only fuel me! ha ha. Now I not the embarrassing fan that is yelling in the stands or anything, but I just get really excited!
They ended up losing, but each match was really close and they improved a lot from the last time they played them. I always hated that most improved award. ha ha. But they did really good!
Anyways all to say this...
It reminded me of what we talked about last night at the youth CG. We talked about how competitive we are in different areas of our lives (sports, money, popularity, etc.), and how competitive we are in our Christian life? This really made me think about that tonight. Am I striving to have a more intimate relationship with God, to serve God and serve others? I know right now I am not as competitive in my Christian life as I was tonight at the volleyball game. Which is sad. Something to think about.
Hope everyone is having a good week!
"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever." I Corinthians 9:24-25
